Resizing your images is simple with the Kestrel Tools Image Resizer:

• Upload Your Image: Click the upload area or drag and drop your image file (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP).
• Choose Resize Mode: Select whether to resize by specific pixel dimensions or by a percentage.
• Set Dimensions/Percentage:
  • Pixels Mode: Enter your desired width and height in the input fields. You can lock or unlock the aspect ratio by clicking the lock/unlock icon next to the dimension inputs. When locked, changing one dimension will automatically update the other to maintain the original proportions.
  • Percentage Mode: Enter the percentage by which you want to resize the image (e.g., 50 for half size, 200 for double size). Use the slider for quick adjustments.

• JPEG: Ideal for photographs, offers good compression but is lossy. Quality can be adjusted.
• PNG: Best for graphics with sharp lines or transparency, uses lossless compression.
• WebP: A modern format offering excellent lossy and lossless compression, often smaller than JPEG and PNG at similar quality. Supports transparency.

Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between an image's width and its height. For example, a 16:9 aspect ratio means that for every 16 units of width, there are 9 units of height.

When resizing by pixels, if the lock icon is active (locked state ), the tool maintains the original aspect ratio. Changing the width will automatically adjust the height, and vice-versa, to prevent your image from looking stretched or squashed. If the icon is unlocked (), you can set width and height independently, which might alter the aspect ratio.

• Consider the Use Case: Resize images to the dimensions needed for their specific purpose (e.g., website banners, social media posts, email attachments).
• Balance Quality and File Size: For JPEGs, a quality setting around 80-92 usually provides a good balance. Lower quality means smaller files but more visible compression artifacts.
• Use WebP for Web: If browser compatibility is not an issue, WebP often provides the best compression and quality for web use.
• Avoid Upscaling Too Much: Significantly increasing an image's size (upscaling) can result in a blurry or pixelated image.
• Preview Before Downloading: Always check the preview to ensure you're happy with the result.
